CD11: FORTRESS - "Who Will Dress Our Soldiers? "
“The touch of your skin, cannot compare to the weight, I try, I’m trying again. The miasmas of your presence, if the body is wrong, this is the place, wasted, wasted.”
It’s been so refreshing to see friends from the emo scene branch out into other areas of punk and explore the outskirts of the genre. Fortress’ “who will dress our soldiers?” picks up on the noisy abstraktions of the 90’s post-hardcore sound and updates them with a fury.
I’ve heard emo described as a style that rides the edge of breaking, somehow managing to hold it together; however, Fortress blows past the breaking point, reapplies the paint, and breaks it again. This is what I find so compelling about the band’s sound; as soon as the noisy guitars over take the mix, another unsettling melody appears to pick the song back up until it crushed in the same fashion.
The band offers the softest meandering riffs, dirtiest bass textures, and noisiest energy I’ve heard in a while. We’re overjoyed to be helping with this release and hope you will open your ears to something new!
